Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the mother’s placenta after the birth of her baby by dehydrating, powdering, and placing it into capsules for the mother to ingest. The ingestion of the placenta is known as placentophagy. The purpose of placentophagy is to gradually reintroduce beneficial hormones, proteins, and other nutrients to the mother’s body following labor and birth to help restore physical and emotional balance, prevent or lessen a hormonal drop that causes “baby blues” (that could lead to perinatal mood disorders), increase lactation, shorten healing time, increase maternal energy levels, and provide an overall feeling of wellness to aid in the transition between pregnancy and the early postpartum period.
Service includes my on-call availability the two weeks before and after your baby is expected to arrive.
Upon notification of your baby’s birth, I will arrive at your place of birth within 12-24 hours (typically sooner) to retrieve placenta (unless you give birth between 8pm and 6am…then I will arrive as soon as I can the following morning). You placenta will be delivered to you encapsulated on or before day four post-partum.
I keep encapsulating pure, raw, and simple: I wash and clean your placenta, then dehydrate for 24-36 hours, grind into a powder, and press into capsules. Depending on the size of your placenta, you should end up with 100-200 capsules. Payment in full is requested for my on-call availability.
